CISA AI & Cybersecurity Roadmap

The roadmap was created in response to the ‘Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence’ signed by President Joe Biden.

The executive order sets out eight guided principles:

  1. Artificial Intelligence must be safe and secure.

  2. Promoting responsible innovation, competition, and collaboration.

  3. Responsible development and use of AI to support American workers

  4. AI policies must advance equity and civil rights

  5. Protect interest of Americans as they interact with AI and purchase AI/AI enabled products

  6. Protect Americans’ privacy and civil liberties as AI advances

  7. Manage the risks from the Federal Government’s own use of AI and increase its internal capacity to regulate, govern, and support responsible use of AI

  8. Leadership from the federal government on global societal, economic, and technological (AI) progress.

The roadmap is an interesting read and is broken up into five lines of effort:

  1. Responsible use of AI.

  2. Assuring AI systems.

  3. Protecting critical infrastructure from malicious AI.

  4. Collaborating with different stakeholders on key AI efforts.

  5. Expanding AI expertise.
